Description

Sh2-308, commonly known as the Dolphin Head Nebula, is an H-II region located near the center of the constellation Canis Major, composed of hydrogen and ionized oxygen. It's about 8 degrees south of Sirius, the brightest star in the night sky. The nebula is bubble-like and surrounds a Wolf-Rayet star, called EZ Canis Majoris, which causes its peculiar shape. This star is in the brief pre-supernova phase of its stellar evolution. The nebula's distance is estimated to be about 4,530 light-years from Earth.
It's one of the most difficult objects to see in Italy, this is because it always remains low compared to the horizon. This leads to a series of problems related to seeing and the clearer sky background. For this reason I wanted to photograph it.
